Our story so far..

Handprints ELC started in 2014 with our St Ives service. Within six months of operating our innovative approaches and outstanding education programs had us recognised with the top rating of exceeding the national quality standard.

Handprints was created by Julia, Sally and Andrew McKean based on Julia’s passion for the early childhood industry and her advocacy for a better start for all children in the first five years through quality education and care centres. With St Ives having an extensive waiting list and proving the success we began looking to expand to a second centre as a way of sharing our message and ways.

When 1 Ridgeland Ave, Killara (owned by the Department of Education) went to tender, we put through an application seeing the potential to create a wonderful learning place for the families and children of Killara. In mid January 2016 we found out we were successful and began the process of taking over the operations of our Killara centre.

In 2015 Handprints hired Nikki, who took on the role of operations manager, and expanded our management team (see Management). Together, Julia and Nikki are working with our centre directors and managers to ensure our centres provide the best possible care and education for all children under five, while also working on our newest projects (Handprints Wentworth Point and Handprints Turramurra). We are further working on some additional initiatives such as Wonder Academy, a new website of ideas for early childhood educators based on the Handprints experience.

Handprints Wentworth Point opened in March 2018, and we welcomed a new team of educators and teachers into our community. They have established themselves as part of our Handprints community as they continue to build their vision and enhance children’s capacity to wonder. The centre’s open play spaces and natural environments have been praised by local families. A childcare centre with water views? What more could you ask for! What a relaxing space we have created for children to learn.

The journey continues with Handprints Turramurra due to open in June/July 2019.
