Handprints KILLARA

When 1 Ridgeland Ave, Killara (owned by the Department of Education) went to tender, we put through an application seeing the potential to create a wonderful learning place for the families and children of Killara. In mid January 2016 we found out we were successful and began the process of taking over the operations of our Killara centre.

Handprints Killara has now been open for almost 2 years and has gone from strength to strength. It went through an entire yard renovation, new resources were purchased indoors, and the educators have been inspired to teach under the Handprints philosophy. The easiest way to describe our Killara centre is open spaces for learning, and peaceful with all the greenery. It’s a wonderful place to play and learn.

Handprints Killara caters for fifty-eight children aged between six weeks and six years across three classrooms. The centre has a lot of space meaning (remove word) within the three (remove word, repeated) classrooms, as well as a dining room, an art room, a programming room for educators and covered outdoor areas. Located next door to the public school we have a strong connection with the local school and their teachers in preparing children to transition to school.

Meet Deb, Our Killara Director:

DirectorDeb

I have a Bachelor of Education (Birth to five years) and have had about 20 years’ experience as an Early Childhood Educator. My experience includes working internationally – UK (London and Scotland) and Canada – where I got a chance to explore a variety of different childcare settings and culture. I enjoy travelling, spending time with my niece and nephew, and visiting new cafes/restaurants around Sydney.

I have been a Director at Handprints ELC Killara for almost a year now and I am extremely lucky to work with such a dedicated bunch of Educators.
My goal is to write children’s books one day.

Meet Bronfenbrenner Bunny (Bronny):

Bronny

My name is Bronfenbrenner, Bronny for short. I love eating cauliflower leaves, parsley, coriander and my absolute favourite herb is mint! I’m definitely an indoor bunny who loves to hop around the house and snuggle up to watch some TV. I have a strange habit of licking people that stop to pat me (that’s just me saying I love you!). I also enjoy having sleepovers for the weekend or over holidays, so if you’re interested in having a quiet and fluffy houseguest who brings their own overnight bag with all food and litter supplied, feel free to ask our Director!
