Handprints KILLARA

Handprints Killara opened on the 22nd February 2016!

Our story so far…1

Handprints ELC started in 2014 with our St Ives service. Within 6 months of operating our innovative approaches and outstanding education programs had us recognised with the top rating of exceeding the national quality standard.

Handprints was created by Julia, Sally and Andrew McKean based on Julia’s passion for the early childhood industry and her advocacy for a better start for all children in the first 5 years through quality education and care centres. With St Ives having an extensive waiting list and proving the success we began looking to expand to a second centre as a way of sharing our message and ways.

When 1 Ridgeland Ave, Killara (owned by the Department of Education) went to tender, we put through an application seeing the potential to create a wonderful learning place for the families and children of Killara. In mid January 2016 we found out we were successful and began the process of taking over the operations of our Killara centre.

In 2015 Handprints hired Nikki, who took on the role of operations manager, and expanded our management team (see Management). Together, Julia and Nikki are worked with the existing team at Killara to set up this fantastic education and care service. Deb who was an existing staff member at our Killara centre was a wonderful asset to us throughout this time and took over in mid 2016 as our Killara director. Handprints Killara has now been open for a year and has gone from strength to strength. It went through an entire yard renovation and new resources indoors, and the educators have been inspired to teach under the Handprints philosophy. The easiest way to describe our Killara centre is open spaces for learning, and peaceful with all the greenery. It’s a wonderful place to play and learn.2
